ABSTRACT Febriana Silfia, 2312.033.The Effect of Using PORPE (Predict, Organize, Rehearse, Practice, Evaluate) Strategy toward Students’ test result in Reading Narrative Text at The Second Grade of SMPN6 Payakumbuh. A Thesis, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Bukittinggi, 2017. This research is aimed at discovering the effect of using PORPE (Predict, Organize, Rehearse, Practice, Evaluate) strategy toward students’ test result in reading narrative text. It has been done at SMPN 6 Payakumbuh because most of the students of Junior High School still encounter problems in mastering English especialy in reading. Most of the students were passive in the classroom; it could be seen from their behavior in reading activity. They tend to be sleepy every time they read. As a result, only some of the students got involved in the classroom activity. This research used experimental research. There researcher used a quasi-experimental design by using the pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this research was the second grade students at SMPN 6 Payakumbuh. The sample was VIII 5 was treated as experimental class and taught by using PORPE Strategy and VIII 6 was treated as control class and taught by using conventional method. To determine the sample, the researcher used total sampling technique. The data was got through pretest and posttest to experimental and control groups. To analyze the data, the researcher used the normality by using Lilliefors test and the homogeneity test by using F test and to test the Hypothesis the researcher used t-test formula and consulted the result into t- table with level of significance α = 0,05. From the result and accounting the pre-test and post-test scores of the experiment class, it was found that the t-obtained (5.19) was higher than the t-table (1.960) with degree of freedom (df) = 53 and (α) = 0,05. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that there was significant effect of PORPE Strategy toward the students test resultin reading narrative text. Then, the calculation of post-test both classes : was experimental class and control class, it was obtained that the t-o was (2.36) which was higher than the t-table (1.960). with degree of freedom 27 + 28 – 2 = 53 and (α)= 0,05 So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that there is significant difference between using PORPE Strategy and Question and answer strategy. Then t-obtained both of classes is (2.36) which was higher than t-table (1.960) with (α)= 0,05. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that PORPE strategy is better than conventional method in teaching reading narrative text. So, it can be concluded that the entire hypothesis is accepted. It is proved that using PORPE Strategy as a reading strategy can help the students in improving their reading narrative text.
