IAIN Bukittinggi. 201</strong><strong>7</strong><strong>.</strong></p> <p> This research is conducted because it is found that many students who have problems in reading, especially in procedure text, which are: some students still get difficulty to identify the generic structures and language features of procedure text. Therefore, the aim this research is to know students’ reading ability in identifying the components of procedure text at the eight garde students of Junior high school 5 Kapur IX of Lima Puluh Kota Regency in academic year 2015/2016.</p> <p> The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. The population of this research is the eight grade students. The total population is 61. The sampling technique is total sampling because the population is less than 100. The technique of data collection is documentation task about procedure text. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the formula that suggested by Sudijono.</p> <p> The result showed that the percentage in identifying the generic structures of procedure text is 58.39%, the percentage in identifying the communicative purpose is 98.36% and the percentage in identifying the language features is 18.32%. Meanwhile, the mean score of A class is 65 and B class is 61. Based on the data interpretation, it can be concluded that students’ reading ability in identifying the component of procedure text is sufficient at the eight grade students in Junior High School 5 Kapur Sembilan Lima Puluh Kota Regency in academic year 2015/2016.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> Key words: students reading ability, procedure text.</p>
