<p align="center"> <strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> </p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> <strong>NURHASANAH MASRI, 2311.056. The Effectiveness of Small Group Discussion towards Students’ Reading Comprehension the Narrative Text at the Eighth Grade of SMP N 08 Payakumbuh. Thesis. English Education Departement : State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Bukittinggi, 2015.</strong></p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> </p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> This research is done because the students had limited vocabulary mastery, the students did not focus on discussing the text, the students were difficult to answer the questions. On the other hand, some students focus on discussing the text and answer the questions well. Then, the students’ mark was still various, where the students got mark under standard minimum and some other got mark above standard minimum. So, the researcher wanted to conduct the research about the effectiveness of Small Group Discussion towards students’ reading comprehension on the narrative text at the eighth grade of SMP N 08 Payakumbuh.</p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> </p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> The form of this research was quantitative research. The instrumentation of the data quantitative the researcher used the documentation such as the students’ test result after using the Small Group Discussion. The population of this research was all of the eighth grade students in SMP N 08 Payakumbuh consisted of 146 students. The sample of this research was the students VIII.2 which consists of 22 students and VIII.3 which consists of 23 students. The sample choosed by using the purposive sampling technique which the sample choosed based on the certain purpose. On the data analysis the researcher used the table of frequency distribution, the table of precentage and diagram. While for the table of frequency distribution the researcher used the formula of interval data, mean, median and mode. For the table of precentage the researcher put into the table of valuation scale.</p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> </p> <p style="margin-left:14.2pt;"> The result showed that the students’ test result showed that the total of the students’ value gotten from the table frequency was 80.73. The percentage of rate value of the students among 72-89%.
