An Error Analysis of Determiner in Writing Essay at the Sixth Semester English Department Students of IAIN Bukittinggi</strong><strong> at the Academic Year 201</strong><strong>4</strong><strong>/201</strong><strong>5. A Thesis</strong> <strong>State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Bukittinggi, 2015.</strong></p> <p> The research is due to problem that was faced by the sixth semester English Department students of IAIN Bukittinggi at the academic year 2014/2015 that was they had learned about grammatical in writing especially related to determiner, but they usually did error in putting determiner while writing essay. This research is a descriptive qualitative research aimed to analyze the students’ error in determiner.</p> <p> The informant of this research is the six semester students of English Education Department that consist of 30 students. The informants are taken by using purposive sampling. The six semester students are chosen because they have taken Academic Writing, and learned about determiner. The technique of data collection in this research is the documentation.</p> <p> Based on the findings of the research, the researcher finds that there are four types of error done by students in use of determiner while writing essay. They are error of omission, error of addition, error of selection, and error of ordering. Furthermore, determiner consists of six aspects but only five of six aspects determiner are done by the students they are on the use of article, possessive determiner, demonstrative determiner, quantifier, and numeral.</p> <p> Hence, it can be concluded that all of types of error have been done by the students on five aspects of determiner.</p> <p> Keyword: Error Analysis, Determiner, and Writing Essay</p> <p> </p>
