English Teachers' Skill in Managing Students in the Classroom at Junior High School in MTs. TI Canduang
ABSTRACT Rice Purnama Sari, 2313.062, Thesis, English Teachers Skill in Managing Students in the Classroom at Junior High School in MTs. TI Canduang, IAIN Bukittinggi, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, 2017. This research aimed to reveal the English teachers skill in classroom management especially in managing the students in MTs. TI Canduang along teaching and learning process. Classroom management is a term commonly used by teacher to manage students, facilities, equipment, and situation in the classroom. Teachers should be able to make a good classroom management to create an effective and conducive learning process. Without a good classroom management capabilities, another teachers’ abilities can be neutral, in the sense of less positive effect or impact on student learning. Furtheremore, the teacher has to really understand how to do good classroom management. Thus, the research was done at junior high school in MTs. TI Canduang to know how does the teachers’ skill in manage the students in the classroom. There are three important issues which can be done by the teacher regarding students management : giving motivation, keeping discipline, and gaining respect. This research was a descriptive qualitative one. The key informant in this research were two English teachers who taught at the first, second and third grade in MTs. TI Canduang. Besides, some of the students that were choosen by using snowball sampling technique become the supporting informant in collecting the data. The data were collected through observation and interview. The data were analyzed by using flow model of Milles and Huberman in Sugiyono. From the data analysis, the researcher found that the English teachers in MTs.TI Canduang had managed the students by some ways. In giving the motivation, the first English tacher did some ways, the teacher asked the silent student to become confidence with performed infont of the class, the teacher created some motivation word, made the students active, and gave the constructive feedback. While, the second English teacher gave the motivation by giving applause for the braved students, designing good class activities, creating some motivation word, making the students active, and using diferent teaching method. In keeping the discipline the first English teacher set the rules at the beginning of semester while, the second English teacher gave the sanksi for the unacceptable behavior of students. The last, in the gaining the respect the English teachers were already good model for the students.
