THE EFFECT OF USING CONTEXT CLUES STRATEGY ON READING COMPREHENSION AT THE 8TH GRADE STUDENTS’ OF SMP N 1 2X11 ENAM LINGKUNG

2025 · Thesis · Skripsi, Thesis, Disertasi, dan Tugas Akhir

The rationality of the research is based on that the students have constrained when understanding a text with unfamiliar words, the teacher still used the common method of teaching reading by having students read the text on the board and answer questions afterward, and students are lack of vocabulary so it is difficult to identify the main idea of the reading text given by teacher. This research aimed to find out the effect of Context Clues strategy towards students reading comprehension. The design of this research was experimental design. This research applied quasi-experimental research with two groups pre-test and post-test. The sample of this research was VIIIA and VIIIB of SMP N 1 2x11 Enam Lingkung, VIIIB as control class and VIIIA as experimental class. The researcher used cluster sampling as a sampling technique. In collecting data, the researcher used the test devided to pre-test and post-test. Then, in analyzing the data, the researcher used the SPSS ( Statistical Package for the Social Science ) 25 to get the t-obtained. After getting the t-obtained, the researcher compared to the t-table with level significant ɑ = 5%. the calculation of t-obtained for first hypothesis showed that the number of t-obtained (2.733) was higher that t-table (2.000). hence, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It means that there was a significant effect of Context Clues Strategy towards students reading comprehension . then, for the second hypothesis showed that the number of t-obtained (2.910) was smaller than t-table (2.000) . Hence, the null hypothesis (H0) was accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected. It means that there was no significant differences of students reading comprehension between the students who taught by using Context Clues strategy and the students who were not taught by using Context Clues strategy. Then, for the third hypothesis can be taken the answer from the post-test score of experimental class ( ) than was higher than post-test score of control class ( ). Hence, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. So that, it can be concluded that reading comprehension of student who taught by using Context Clues strategy better than students who were not taught by using Context Clues strategy.
